About Sailing at LGYC

Background:

Lake Gregory Yacht Club (LGYC) was founded by four original partners in 20XX. Lake Gregory Yacht Club (“LGYC” and/or the “Club”) exists to enable San Bernardino area mountain families and individuals to share social and boating-related experiences. The Club encourages civic involvement and volunteerism and participates in and initiates community-based philanthropic funding and events. Memberships are in household units and activities are family-oriented. The short-range objective is to bring a boating experience to mountain families and their children.

The Club has an on-going interest in both Radio Controlled (RC) Model Sailboats as well as vessels up to 16 ft in length which is Lake Gregory’s maximum allowable length overall. The “crewed” sailboats range from one skipper in a Sabot, to several sailors crewing a Chrysler Dagger or Lido 16.

There is kayaking and canoeing by club members on Lake Gregory as well.

The RC sailboats are sailed by skippers at the waters’ edge in a dedicated area set aside by San Bernardino County Parks and Recreation on Lake Gregory. INSERT SB COUNTY LAKE GREGORY MODEL CLUB SIGN IMAGE

Sometimes, the sailing is “open sailing friendlies” where skippers launch their sailboats and chase each other around. Sometimes, the club will hold “points” regatta which means scores are taken and tabulated based on racing around a set course.

We also hold Ladies' Sailing Clinics, Weekly Beer Can races (Wednesday nights) as well as community outreach to the San Bernardino Mtns, "Boys and Girls Club"  as well as "Open Sail - Friendlies." CLICK HERE FOR CALENDAR

More formally, there are several regattas during the season which attract skippers from off the mountain to compete in heats and various class competition. In addition to folks locally from Lake Arrowhead and Running Springs, CA we see skippers coming to race who are home-ported in Huntington Beach, CA; Long Beach, CA; Irvine, CA; Temecula, CA and San Diego, CA. In turn, some of Lake Gregory skippers will travel to other RC sailing areas to sail/race in those other homeports.
